Brocade switches have the ability to automatically assign licenses from a. NOTE – If you are zoning on a Brocade SAN Switch and you are. Martien Korenblom February 20, 2011 May 18, 2012 5 Comments on How to replace a Brocade SAN switch. If not, contact Brocade or the OEM vendor, in my case HP, for a license move of your licenses to the replacement switch; Do not connect your replacement switch to the fabric yet, but connect it to your network and, if neeeded, give an IP-address.
To enable additional functionality or enable additional switch ports on Brocade switches, you must purchase and activate the license. Licenses can be activated by customer without requesting technical support or vendor of switches.Licenses for the switches can be purchased from switches suppliers, for example, Dell, HP, IBM, EMC, Hitachi, Fujitsu, and etc.
For license activation you have to have account at http://my.brocade.com.
To obtain license for your switches you have to login at software portal http://swportal.brocade.com and then go to license key generation page: License Management -> Brocade FOS -> License Generation With Transaction Key.
After completing Customer Information fields you have to enter Unit Information, which requires following information:
Unique ID Type – type of switch identification (License ID, Motherboard serial number, Unit serial number)
Unit's Unique ID – switch identification
Transaction Key – purchased license ID
You can get License ID number from Stitch information tab from the WEB-tools of switch or you can get it from Glossary Link CLI running command switchshow. Switchshow example:
SW300:admin> switchshow
switchName: SW300
switchType: 71.2

switchMode: Native
switchRole: Principal
switchDomain: 178
switchId: fffcb2

If you cannot use the wwn command because the switch is inoperable, you can get the
WWN from the same place as the serial number, except for the Brocade DCX. For the
Brocade DCX, access the numbers on the WWN cards by removing the Brocade logo
plate at the top of the non-port side. The WWN is printed on the LED side of both cards.
